When I began writing Arnold Falls, I knew music would play a big part in the life of the town and so in the book.
As it turns out, having put together a playlist of the songs name-checked in the book, there are 45 of them, from all over the map: Puccini, Florence + The Machine, Shirley Bassey, Ennio Morricone, Laura Nyro, Mariachi Vargas De Tecalitlan, The Staple Singers, Sarah Vaughan, Blossom Dearie, and many more—some of which you’ll know, some you may not.
For the latter, if you’re signed up with Spotify or Apple Music, and you’re curious about any of the tunes referenced, you can listen to the whole “soundtrack” at Spotify or Apple Music.
